Malaysia is a country in South-East Asia, located one part on a peninsula of the Asian mainland and another one on the northern third of the island of Borneo. West (peninsular) Malaysia shares a border with Thailand and is connected by a causeway and a bridge to the island state of Singapore. It has coastlines on the South China Sea and the Straits of Malacca. East Malaysia (Borneo) shares borders with Brunei and Indonesia. Malaysia has tropical climate due to its location at the equator.
Malaysia has 13 states and 3 federal territories. It has a population of 27million which consists of the Malays, Chinese, Indians and indigenous people. The capital city is at Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia was once under the British rule and Japanese Occupation. It gained independence in 1957.
Multiculturalism has not only made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise, it has also made Malaysia home to hundreds of colourful festivals.
